MEMORANDUM: CITY CANDIDATE FILING

RE: Candidate and Measure Certification
The purpose of this memo is to notify you of important deadlines and certification dates related to the upcoming 2026 Primary Election to be held on June 9th, 2026.
The candidate filing deadline for the 2026 Primary Election is 4:00 pm Monday, April 6, 2026.
Candidates must have the appropriate filing paperwork submitted to your office by that deadline.
This is also the deadline for the certification of ballot measures that must appear on the 2026 Primary Election ballot.
The candidacy withdraw deadline is 4:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Please submit your certified list of candidates in the appropriate ballot order and all ballot measure language by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
For your convenience, I have included the Contest and Ballot Measure Certification form to be completed and returned to my office.
Then when available, the county will send you a draft ballot for your review and a Ballot Verification form for you to complete.
Your city must meet the above deadlines to have contests or measures placed on the 2026 Primary Election ballot.
Just as a reminder, a complete candidacy filing for a city candidate includes:
· Affidavit of Candidacy (2703) (Suggested but not required)
· Petition/Certificate of Nomination (SFN 2704) Required
o 10% of the number of qualified voters who voted for that office in the last city election, or not more than 300 signatures.
o If multiple candidates were elected to the office at the preceding city election at which the office was voted upon, the number of signatures must equal at least 10% of the total votes cast for all candidates divided by the number of candidates that were to be elected to that office at that election.
